# Accept in-person payments with Tap to Pay

> Turn your iPhone into a payment terminal. Accept contactless cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay at the job site — no card reader or extra hardware needed.

Tap to Pay on iPhone lets you collect payment the moment a job is done, right where you're standing. Your iPhone becomes a full contactless payment terminal powered by Stripe Terminal. Customers tap a card, Apple Pay, or any NFC-enabled wallet, and the payment processes immediately — with funds in your account the same day.

  Tap to Pay on iPhone requires an **iPhone XS or later** running **iOS 16 or newer**. Enablement and checkout happen in the Homespace **mobile app** — the web dashboard is not used for in-person payment collection.

## What you can accept

Tap to Pay works with any NFC-enabled payment method:

* Contactless credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover)
* Apple Pay
* Google Pay
* Other NFC digital wallets

No physical card reader, Bluetooth device, or dock is required. Your iPhone handles everything.

## How to enable Tap to Pay

    Make sure you are running the latest version of the Homespace mobile app.

  <Step title="Go to Tap to Pay">
    Navigate to **Dashboard > Tap to Pay** and tap **Enable**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Agree to the Tap to Pay terms">
    Apple requires you to accept the Tap to Pay on iPhone terms of service the first time you enable the feature. This is a one-time step.

  <Step title="Confirm your bank account is connected">
    Tap to Pay requires an active Stripe connection. If you have not connected a bank account yet, you will be prompted to complete that setup first.

## How to collect a payment in the field

  <Step title="Open the job or invoice">
    In the Homespace mobile app, open the job you just completed or the invoice you want to collect on.

  <Step title="Tap Charge or Collect payment">
    Select **Charge** or **Collect payment** from the job actions menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select Tap to Pay">
    Choose **Tap to Pay** as the payment method.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Present the reader to your customer">
    Your iPhone screen will display the payment amount. Ask the customer to tap their card or device to the top of your iPhone where the NFC reader is located.

  <Step title="Payment processes immediately">
    A confirmation screen appears within seconds. A receipt is sent to the customer automatically, and the payment is recorded against the job.

<Tip>
  Tap to Pay is ideal for collecting a deposit before you start work. Open the estimate, tap Charge, and collect the deposit on the spot. The signed estimate and deposit are automatically linked in the job record.

## Processing rate and deposit timing

Tap to Pay uses the standard in-app card rate: **2.6% + \$0.10** per transaction.

Payments collected before **5 PM PT** on a business day are deposited the same day. There is no additional delay for in-person payments.

## Troubleshooting

    Confirm your iPhone is XS or later and running iOS 16 or newer. If the device meets requirements, make sure your bank account is connected under **Settings > Payments**. Tap to Pay is unavailable until your Stripe account has charges enabled.

  <Accordion title="The customer's card is not being read">
    Ask the customer to hold their card flat against the top of your iPhone for one to two seconds. Some thick wallets or phone cases on the customer's device can interfere with NFC. Ask them to remove the card from the wallet or case and try again.

  <Accordion title="The payment was declined">
    Declines come from the customer's card issuer, not Homespace. Ask the customer to try a different card or payment method. The declined attempt is logged in the job record but no charge is made.

  <Accordion title="I need to issue a refund for a Tap to Pay charge">
    Refunds work the same way as any other Homespace payment. Open the payment record in the job, select **Refund**, and confirm. Refunds are free and typically appear in the customer's account within 5–10 business days.
